From Whelp to Woof! – A Head Start on Life

In today’s video, you’ll see Craig guiding our tiniest pups through their daily ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) and ESI (Early Scent Introduction) routines—gentle but powerful exercises that form a core part of our From Whelp to Woof!curriculum.

At just a few days old, these puppies can’t yet see or hear, but their brains and bodies are rapidly developing—and this is the perfect time to lay strong foundations for calm, resilient, and well-adjusted adult dogs.

You’ll notice Craig holding each pup in different positions—upright, supine (on their back), and upside down—then gently pressing a cotton bud between each of their toes. These short, carefully timed ENS exercises help activate their neurological systems, strengthening their ability to handle stress later in life. Studies have shown that puppies exposed to ENS tend to have stronger heartbeats, better immune function, and increased tolerance to unfamiliar situations.

You’ll also see the puppies resting briefly on a cool cloth, mimicking mild environmental stress to build adaptability and confidence. Then comes one of our favourite parts: ESI! Craig introduces each puppy to a new natural scent—in this case, crushed leaves—offering them the chance to explore the world through their incredibly powerful noses. This scent work helps wire their brains for curiosity and confidence.

He finishes by letting the puppies feel the warmth of his breath and the low vibrations of his voice—a soothing sensory experience that builds early trust and familiarity with humans before their ears even open.

While it might look like a series of simple, gentle movements, what’s really happening here is profound. These few minutes each day are helping shape our puppies into emotionally balanced, socially confident companions—ready to take on the world, one sniff at a time.
